Buster Tate
Buster is currently the Chief Operating Officer for Foster Web Marketing (FWM). Prior to joining FWM he served 32 years of civilian service for the Department of Defense. In his last position before retiring he served as the Director, Civilian Expeditionary Work Force Programs for the Secretary of the Navy.
Buster brings a wealth of experience in leadership, entrepreneurial business development, marketing, financial analysis, customer service, IT/web development and project management. His government career began in June 1977 as a white water adventure guide for the Navy’s Recreation Department. His entrepreneurial skills propelled him through a sequence of promotions to become the senior career civilian responsible for all Quality of Life programs for the Navy and Marine Corps. This career path afforded Buster the opportunity to develop a series of highly successful businesses in support of military personnel and their families. These businesses included golf courses, marinas, various food and bar operations, bowling centers, movie theaters, child development centers, sports complexes, fitness centers, housing, family service centers and various special events including national level regattas, concerts and festivals. All these operations were marketed and supported through an award winning web portal that Buster founded.
Throughout his career Buster’s talent for business development has been applied to businesses ranging from small military base operations to Department of Defense wide programs. Following the initial military action in Iraq the State Department created Provincial Reconstruction Teams to assist the Iraq government in reestablishing provincial and municipal services. Buster was recruited to develop and implement the economic and business recovery plans. He served two, one year, tours, one in Baghdad and one in the Anbar province. The business models he developed and implemented in the Anbar Province are now part of military doctrine and will be used by future Civilian Expeditionary teams for stabilization/reconstruction and counterinsurgency efforts in post conflict countries.
Buster has earned Bachelor Degrees in Education and Recreation Administration from Western Kentucky University, Bowling Green KY. He lives with his wife Leslie in Alexandria VA. He has a daughter, Mary and a son, Matthew and two awesome grand children Tyler and Campbell.
